BICOL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, NAKATAKDANG MAGBUKAS MATAPOS ANG 11-TAON

Pangungunahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang inagurasyon ng Bicol International Airport (BIA) ngayong araw, Huwebes, ika-7 ng Oktubre, matapos ang 11 taon mula nang simulan ang konstruksyon nito, ayon sa Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Nitong Linggo nagsagawa ng final inspection si Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade kasama ang ibang local officials sa 4-bilyon na paliparan.

“Construction works were delayed for 11 years. It went through three groundbreaking ceremonies prior to this administration. While we were building it, it also suffered arson incidents [perpetrated by rebels],” saad ni Tugade.

Sa isang press statement, inanunsyo ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) na tatanggap lamang ng domestic daytime flights ang paliparan pansamantala bilang simula ng operasyon. Tiniyak naman ni CAAP Legazpi City manager, Cynthia Tumanut sa isang forum ang pagbubukas ng pantalan para sa lahat ng domestic flights mula 7 ng Nobyembre.

Ngayong taon din ay nakatakda itong sumailalim sa inspeksyon ng International Civil Aviation Organization. Ang pantalan na may sakop na 148 hektarya at 2,500 metro na runway strip ay inaasahang tatanggap ng 2 milyong pasahero kada taon.
